My Tree

I was sound asleep in my bed when I heard it, a loud scratching sound like a tree was falling on our house. I immediately called my son. He hadn’t heard a thing! I’m sure he thought I was imagining things again. But he put on his coat and grabbed his trusty flashlight and went out. It was a windy, stormy night, and rain was falling so hard that neither man or beast wanted to be out in it. Anyhow he thought he would wait until it got light before examining what the sound was.

In the morning he walked out to the side of the house and was immediately frightened enough that he called 911! A man from the city came first. He asked who else was living in the house, and told my son to get me at least to the southeast portion of the house. He said the tree could fall at any moment and take out my bedroom and craft room with it! He called the fire department and an arbor man. Soon we had quite a company of people standing around the tree, wondering what to do. All of them said they were amazed that the tree didn’t all fall. “What’s holding it up?”, they asked.

One of the firemen climbed to the top of a 200 foot fir tree and handed down a metal rope of some kind. Together, the man at the top and the men at the bottom managed to change the direction of the tree and it fell harmlessly into the woods! Our house wasn’t damaged and I didn’t die that night when I heard the noise. It had to be God, don’t you think?

We do live with the woods just to the north of our border line. It offers those beautiful 200 foot northern fir trees. This tree was not on our property and we can’t find the owner, so I guess we are out the nearly $600 it cost! we still are the gainers though, don’t you agree?

My car

We have a 1998 Subaru. Pretty old, huh? Yes, but this one was really special. It had leather seats that were heated!  I guess that isn’t the important thing for you so I’ll tell you more. It had a rebuilt motor, new transmission, new battery, brakes were brought up to par, pretty good tires and everything worked great. That is until we were on our way to church one day and it overheated which my son said was bad. After that, two mechanics told us the best thing we can do is trash it! Trash my leather seats which were heated? That didn’t make sense, but it kept on overheating. In fact, my son said it started heating after he drove it less than a couple of blocks!

So we had to do something. I didn’t have any equity in my house so I couldn’t get a loan. The lady we talked to said I couldn’t get a car loan because I didn’t have a driver’s license! That made sense. My son would have to get the loan but he had quit his job in order to take care of me (I am 93) and had started a business on the internet which has been slow. So, we would have to do something else.

Well, I started praying! I had never prayed for a car before, but I was sure God knew all about it. A few days went by and my other son in New Mexico called. Now, I was sure he couldn’t give us a car. He has had many health problems for a long time and didn’t have any real income. But, he did say his wife might give us a loan. They had put all of their income in her name because of his illness.  She called later and gave us all we needed! I couldn’t believe it. She wouldn’t even hear about a loan. She said, “It is a gift, shouldn’t a family help in time of need?”

Now I dream of our car! I wonder, Will it have leather seats that are heated? Wouldn’t that be wonderful? I wanted you to know about this because maybe you have wondered if God answers prayer. He does!
