Why Should We Pray?

“If you have made the Lord your refuge, if you have made the most High your shelter, no plague will come near your home for he will order the angels to protect you wherever you go.” Psalm 91: 9-11 (Paraphrased)

Just last night I awoke to see an orange fire in the sky. It looked like it was not far away. I called: “Ron!” It was nothing, just a reflection, probably made by the full moon. But I wondered, why was my first call to Ron, my son, who lives with me? I have made the Lord my refuge and my most high my shelter, why shouldn’t my first call be to Him? We have had much more serious things happen to us these last months. And I have called, “Ron!” Why?

“It’s Just natural” my friends and children would say. My kids said when they were little, “Mommy!” whenever they woke up scared. And Mommy would go to them. That was all they needed. But I am not a kid. I should go to my refuge and my shelter first. Shouldn’t I? Yes, and so should you, even if you haven’t made him your refuge and shelter. God loves you! And he is not deaf!  But he does want you to believe in him.

Our America is in trouble these days. Some, and I believe it’s many, are trying to change the way we live and govern and just about everything else! All of us want black. red, brown, yellow and white to live as Americans, but the organizers of all this trouble are making it sounds like it’s a black vs. white protest. They are using this terrible virus too as a way to get to our churches.

Oh, we need prayer and our first call to be “God”. Please pray for our country. Please pray for our churches and for all of us who want America to be what it should be, a place where everyone can live in peace, love and joy. God is in complete control but he wants our prayers. Just read the Old Testament and you will learn about many trials the people had and when people turned toward him, things turned around. He will do the same today.  It is urgent…pray!

Our Thorn In The Flesh

There is a Bible verse that has always made folks wonder.

It is found in 2nd Corinthians verses 7-9. Paul is writing: I was given a thorn in the flesh by a messenger of Satan to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me but he said to me , “My grace is sufficient for you for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Everyone has wondered what that thorn was. Most think it was his eyes, but that doesn’t matter to us today because all of us have the same thorn. It is called Corona virus, but we have shortened that to Covid-19. Now Paul only prayed three times for his thorn to be released and it wasn’t. I am sure people all across the world have prayed many thousand  times to be released from our thorn, and we so badly want God to take it from us.

We sit in our homes wondering how long this virus can last. Certainly the nurses, doctors, firemen, police, first defenders, etc. are wondering too. But is God saying to us “.My grace is sufficient for you for my power is made perfect in weakness?” I’m not sure but that God wants all of us us to repent.

We need to repent of so many things. We have let our country down and each of us is guilty. Where were we when we voted that murdering our babies was okay. where were we when we let our schools change to no praying, no Bibles or even to display the Christmas theme in any way, and where were we when marriages became almost nothing when people of the same sex can marry. I could go on. Yes, we need to repent!

I know I’m nothing, but several nothings can make quite a group. If many of us would really repent as to how our country has been nearly destroyed, I’m sure that God’s grace would be enough for us. Our Covid-19 would disappear and better yet, our country would shed much of our sins. Let’s try it. How about it?

REPENT MEANS TO PRAY THAT WE ARE SORRY FOR ALL THE THINGS THAT HAVE MADE OUR  COUNTRY LOSE MANY OF THE GOOD THINGS. WE, OURSELVES, ARE GUILTY, AND WE PROMISE THAT WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO CHANGE WHAT IS BAD AND KEEP WHAT IS GOOD.
