We Are Americans

The bad boys seem to be awfully busy tearing down our statues, don’t they? Or is TV showing the same ones over and over? I don’t know, but I do know I feel awful when one of the statues goes crashing to the streets! What do they think they are doing anyhow? I guess they think they are somehow ending America, that we will forget George Washington,  Abe Lincoln and all our Generals and Presidents and everybody.

I have been studying the Old Testament in our Bibles lately. They really tore down their statues a lot. But God told them to do it because they were used only to worship false gods! Those people God really loved seemed to go off course and worship the false gods once in awhile. Do we do that once in awhile too? Oh, we don’t worship our statues, at least I don’t think we do, but we do worship our cars, money and anything else that strikes our fancy. Isn’t that worship when we spend more time and money on other things, than spending time with God? But God still loves us.

And even if the bad boys take all of our statues down, we are Americans. We will never forget those men and  women who gave their all to make sure our Constitution and our Bill Of Rights will live on. We don’t need the statues to remind us we are Americans, and we intend to stay AMERICANS, no matter what a few others say!

Why?

Why do we have to suffer this terrible lockup? Why do we have to wear these masks? Why I haven’t  worn one since I was a kid at Halloween! Why do we have to suffer through things like People taking things that don’t belong to them, breaking windows, setting fires to stores and police cars? None of these things sound at all like America, do they? Is this how we will celebrate America’s 150th birthday?

I saw on television, in fact it was on Kelly Clarkson’s show, where a young black boy was complaining to his mother about walking around the city where they were living. “I am afraid to walk anywhere these days,” he said. His Mom told him to find others who also are afraid. explaining that a group of people walking together will keep everyone from being afraid. He took her up on it.

He talked to several people who were also afraid and he went walking with a few of them. He decided there must be more of them. So he branched out, calling a few and the few called more folks who were afraid. Soon, he had a full block of folks walking, not for any agenda, but just for walking and wearing their masks. And, this young man has made this his job.

Now that sounds more like America. doesn’t it? It sounds like celebrating July 4th too! Folks getting together, having a picnic and watching fireworks, singing songs and maybe walking along together. That sure sounds better than that other stuff, doesn’t it?

Let’s take this man’s idea and really celebrate the 4th of July. Now, I can’t walk. I am a 94 year old lady with bad legs. But maybe I can get together with someone like me and have a picnic, talking about the old days, huh? Sounds good to me.
