Down On Your Knees

I remember the time our family took our vacation going through Canada. I think I was eleven years old, and I was especially looking forward to seeing those Dionne quintuplets. But all you could see was the little girls playing in a fenced in play yard which was covered with a kind of glass that I could see through but they couldn’t see me. I was disappointed.

As we were getting into our car, Daddy said: “I’m looking forward to seeing that big church and we will see that next.”

Now, I was used to going to church, but I couldn’t imagine visiting one. When we turned into the driveway I saw a huge building withl large angels and many old testament made of cement on it. I had never seen a church like that, ever! There were at least one hundred steps before you even got near the place where they worshipped. But that isn’t why that interested me. I was surprised to see many people kneeling as they went up the steps and they were praying too. When I went up the stairs, I didn’t kneel or pray as I ran up there. However, I saw many crutches and even wheelchairs leaning against the wall. “Those people were healed,” I whispered to myself.

I was excited and practically ran over to where my Daddy was reading some stuff on the wall. “Those people were healed as they knelt on the steps.I pointed to a wall over by the steps ” Look over there. Look at all the crutches and wheelchairs that are lined up, Daddy.”

“People were payed to kneel up the steps and then leave crutches and things there” he said, and went back to his reading.

I couldn’t figure out if he was just fooling or not, but I walked back to where they were still kneeling. I even talked to one of the ladies. She told me she was praying for the healing of her husband.

Back in the car I thought about all those people kneeling on those hard steps. I hoped they got everything they were praying for. Why don’t we kneel and pray. We used to dress up when we went to church. Many don’t do that anymore. Yet we put on our best for parties. Don’t we know that we are going to God’s house to meet him there. We don’t kneel before him either. I don’t even kneel when I pray at home. We should, I know we should. We seem to think more about our President or our favorite movie star than our most wonderful God who loves us and send his Son to come here and die for us.

Maybe we should do better. Maybe even our churches could do better. At least you and I can bow our knees to our Heavenly Father in prayer, couldn’t we?

God Is For You

I haven’t always believed that! I remember when I was dreaming about actually holding my baby for the first time, I looked at my changing body with glee, thinking how wonderful it would be for my husband and I, watching him or her grow up. The time finally came. We entered the hospital joyfully. later, a doctor, not even my own, entered the room. He didn’t look happy. All he said was “Your baby died, we couldn’t do anything!” Even then, I believed in God. But when I was put in a room with four happy mothers, watching them as they eagerly fed their little baby, I couldn’t believe there was a God who cared.

Later, we had a second baby. The doctor said I had carried him dead for almost a month. I don’t remember the next few days, but I heard a song that went like this: “Farther along, you’ll know all about this, Farther along you’ll understand why.” Cheer up, my sister, live in God’s sunshine. You’ll understand it all by and by.”My husband was able to get a recording of that so we listened over and over. When I left the hospital (In those days, mothers stayed in the hospital 10 days) my husband and I laid down on our bed and cried for hours. When that was over, my husband said, “God knows more than we do, but we need to trust Him. ” Yes. And we will remember that God does love us” I have tried to let God take the wheels of my life ever since.

It’s hard these days to know just where America is going. We watch as we see babies being killed and children taken from their homes. We also see more murders everywhere. People want our country to become something most of us really don’t want. We see rumors of wars in the horizon and some would like to see genders to change. Our America would be gone. But God hasn’t gone anywhere! If you look, you can see many things He is doing. Many people in our country are turning to God. He will save our country and the whole world, but we have to be patient and began working on ourselves. There is much each of us can do.

God has been very good to this 96 year old lady. My husband and I were given three babies which have grown up loving God. It’s hard to look back and see that I really walked away from God, but God never walked away from me. He hasn”t walked away from America either. Just wait and see!
