Abortion Is In The News Again

It seems that the abortion law was passed a long time ago.  I was against it then and I sure am against what some candidates for President have put on their agenda now! The Governor of Virginia said that if a baby is alive when born, the doctor should make the baby as comfortable as possible. Then the mother and the doctor will decide whether or not they should kill the baby. That sounds impossible doesn’t it? But the candidates want the law changed to read: Abortion should be legal until the last trimester of pregnancy.

I can’t believe they want that. Most babies are alive during the last trimester, premature, to be sure, but some would be alive and fully formed. We should not allow such a bill in our country to be passed should we? God must be wringing his hands. The Bible tells us that we are all wonderfully made. The Bible also says God watches over us while we are in the womb.

Millions of babies have suffered the disease called abortion. When the doctor or midwife takes the baby right after she is born, they will slap her. This is important so that the mouth and nose will be clear and baby will breathe. The baby cries. I often wonder if the slap hurts them or if being out in this crazy, cold, world makes them cry.

Why do we have abortion of any kind legal anyway? Isn’t it because of sin? The sin of selfishness in which we tell ourselves that the baby would get in the way of things I want to do. We can’t afford it, we want to buy so many things. Oh there are many reasons to abort. But God has given us that little one and if we trust Him, He will see that all will be well both for you and your baby. I know some of you will say that babies are sometimes born crippled or mentally challenged. These children are given us to care for and love. They are special children and those that have them know that.

I hope that you won’t vote for those who want us to kill our babies. Jesus loved them and said, “Anyone who hurts one of these little ones will be like those who have a millstone tied around them and be tossed into the sea.” I guess that’s one good reason to be against abortion. huh?

psalm 121

As I was leading a Bible study one morning, a lady said,”I look up to Mt. Hood every day because the Bible tells me to in this Psalm.”

“Yes, the Bible does read that way, but let’s read together the whole Psalm 121 and discuss each verse,” I said.

“I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from whence shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber, Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand, the sun will not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The lord will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever.”

“Now, isn’t that a wonderful promise for each of us? You must remember that the whole Bible is a letter from God to you. All of the promises are for each of you if only you reach out and touch Him. Of course, we should look up to the mountain and when you do, you will feel much better than looking down in despair and discouragement. The 2nd verse says your help comes from the Lord.”

That means everything for everyone, doesn’t it? If He made heaven and earth, it’s likely He can handle your problems. And that isn’t all, He’ll be your shade. During the shady times of your life, He will take you through them if you ask.

I am reminded of a story about a boy who was carrying his brother who had hurt his leg. A man came along and said to the boy, “That’s too heavy a load for a little guy like you, isn’t it?

The boy answered, ” He ain’t heavy, Mister. He’s my brother!”

That answers it. God loves you so much! He’s our maker and keeper. Your problem is never too much for him to handle. Verse seven  says, “He will protect you from evil and verse eight says, He will guard your going out and coming in.”

It’s a pretty good Psalm, isn’t it? I think you should memorize it and certainly you should believe it. Don’t you? The world is in an awful mess and we certainly need Jesus to help us go through this valley. He will calm our fears and take us to that mountain top!
