Yesterday Is Gone!

I was sitting in my craft room looking at the woods. The woods are mostly covered with large Northern Fir trees, but there are some Maple trees sprinkled around and these wore yellow, orange and brown leaves. The picture was marvelous! My son entered the room. He looked out at the woods too. I said, “I must take a picture of that, don’t you think?”

“Yeah, we should, ” he answered. ” I’ll take one with my phone. It takes beautiful pictures.”

But……neither of us took a picture of the woods that day. The next morning as I looked out my window, I saw the Maple trees had almost no leaves at all! A wind had come up and blown all the leaves off!

I felt awful! Why didn’t we take at least one picture? God said in his book that we should never put off what we should do today, but we do, all of us. I believe every one of us has put off doing something for our fellow men. How about going to church or reading our Bibles. The problem is that it gets easier to keep on doing it.

I read a story in which a little girl kept pestering her father to read a story in her book. She came into her father’s den many times to tearfully ask, “Daddy, won’t you please read just this one little story. Please!”

Later, he heard a loud sound like screeching brakes, just outside his window. He looked out and saw his little girl had been hit by a car. She was gone, and he hadn’t even read that one little story!

Don’t put off doing something today until tomorrow. Sometimes tomorrow may never come, and sometimes the thing you intended to do is no more!

October Is Best

I believe God created October when He was feeling very artistic. What could be better than a sun-splashed and bright blue sky with a temperature not cold, but not warm either? A time when He was feeling really great so He colored all the leaves in shades of red, yellow, orange, green and brown.  All for us, isn’t that wonderful?

But, today I am looking out my window at grey skies and leaves that have fallen and turned into mush.  However, I have my memories: running over the pile of pretty leaves Daddy has just raked up, walking through the woods, hearing the sound of crunching leaves beneath my feet, a walk with my little girl to see which of us could find the prettiest leaf and the very best, a bonfire of burning leaves! Oh, the fragrant smell of leaves burning is better than the most expensive perfume. Our children can never enjoy this because it’s against the law now.

It is sad when I see folks walking or running around with their heads looking down into their cell phones or tablets and not see the beauty of October. I wish all of us could forget their phones and enjoy the beauty God has created for us. Then you will take your memories with you into your older days.
