Those Filthy Feet!

He poured water into a bowl and began to wash the followers’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. John 13: 5

What did Jesus do after he had risen from the dead? He chose his followers and headed out on the dirty roads of Israel to introduce the new way people should worship God. After each day of walking, they needed to find water enough to wash their grimy feet. But one day he poured water into a bowl and began to wash his followers dirty feet. The followers were reluctant at first, but ended up letting him wash their feet. Peter even said, “Not only my feet, Lord, but all of me.”

Our stinky feet is mostly in our minds, but it shows up in other places too, like what we do, what we say, how we think and how we teach our kids. If we act like the world and do those things I mentioned badly, we have stinky feet. What do we do about it? Well, we don’t have Jesus, with his stinky feet walking along the roads in Israel. No, in fact he was arrested, tortured so awfully one couldn’t recognize him. He was then hung on a cross until he died, and was placed in a borrowed tomb. On Easter Sunday he rose from death and walked around Jerusalem for 40 days. Many folks watched him go up to heaven where he lives with his father, God. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit down to us to be our teacher, our comforter and our friend. That makes three of them wrapped up as one God – God, the creator, God the Redeemer, and God, the Holy Spirit who dwells in everyone who asks.

If you have come to God, he has put his loving arms around you and will never leave you nor forsake you, And on top of all that, you will not have stinky, dirty feet, Jesus has already washed them, OH that you would come to God today. It’s important, especially in this big, old and crazy world we live in. Just say, “My feet are so dirty, and I want you so bad, Jesus. Please help me.” And he will!
