The Bible tells us in Psalm 103: 15-17 this way: As for man, his days are like grass, as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. When the wind has passed over it, it is no more; and its place acknowledges it no longer.
I am old, but I remember when I was young, those carefree days of childhood when I played in the mud, our roads were always muddy when it rained. I loved it when the mud sqished between my toes. It seemed like I was playing only minutes, but Mama was already calling me in for dinner. It was then that I realized I had been playing a long time.
I recall dating days too. The music seemed much more romantic, the moon and stars were much more beautiful than I had ever thought. It felt like life was so wonderful and if it was the right man, we had those precious plans to make, this time together.
What about the days of motherhood? That wonderful feeling you and I had when we looked down at that baby which has just been born. Remember? And suddenly you are looking down the aisle where your baby is walking to meet her man. She is eager to walk into that marriage with that man who was about to become her husband.
We began to look forward to our retirement. The time isn’t slow enough to cover all the plans we had. My husband and I wanted to travel to places like Alaska, Israel and Norway. But our plans were only in our head and now husband and traveling days are gone too.
Yes, life is short but we can make good use of it. I feel I did, because I walked my life with God. I enjoyed my life with my two husbands. (My first husband died when we were both in our thirties) As I look back,I see things I could have done better as a mother, but all four of them know God and have gone to college so I am proud of them. It’s something all of you can do. Follow God and live your life without regrets and you will even get through this terrible virus that seems to takes so much of our retirement days. It’s a good time to think and plan, no matter what age you are. You will find that life is really short and it is good to look back and see that you have no regrets.
