I believe God created October when He was feeling very artistic. What could be better than a sun-splashed and bright blue sky with a temperature not cold, but not warm either? A time when He was feeling really great so He colored all the leaves in shades of red, yellow, orange, green and brown. All for us, isn’t that wonderful?
But, today I am looking out my window at grey skies and leaves that have fallen and turned into mush. However, I have my memories: running over the pile of pretty leaves Daddy has just raked up, walking through the woods, hearing the sound of crunching leaves beneath my feet, a walk with my little girl to see which of us could find the prettiest leaf and the very best, a bonfire of burning leaves! Oh, the fragrant smell of leaves burning is better than the most expensive perfume. Our children can never enjoy this because it’s against the law now.
It is sad when I see folks walking or running around with their heads looking down into their cell phones or tablets and not see the beauty of October. I wish all of us could forget their phones and enjoy the beauty God has created for us. Then you will take your memories with you into your older days.
